The amount of new social networking sites is simply amazing and the ability to aggregate data is becoming increasingly necessary to maintain a diverse network of relationships. Here are a number of my favorite services and features.

Social Bookmarking

There are two main services that I have come across that handle social bookmarking.

Posttoaster.com offers links to 69 different services. The two drawbacks are, not all the services are live and Posttoaster isn’t fully automated. Once you create your titles and descriptions, Posttoaster just provides links to the different sites that the user most then click and monitor to make sure they work correctly.

I haven’t checked it out personally yet, but SocialMarker.com is another Social Bookmarking aggregate mentioned in
Michelle Macphearson blog. SocialMarker has 45 different services that they link to and also offer a website plug-in and a very popular WordPress plug-in.

Social Profile

There are two services that I really like that help manage and maintain your profile across a variety of different sites.

MyBlogLog.com allows you to build a comprehensive profile including almost every major service. I love the way it builds a linked profile for you to display on your site and the way most major blogs have the service integrated. The coolest thing is that MyBlogLog will automatically suggest groups to join depending on the sites you are visiting.

The other service I like that works a little differently is FriendFeed.com. FriendFeed aggregates what you are doing and creates a feed basd on these actions. For example, you FriendFeed has your Flickr account, when you load pictures into Flickr, FriendFeed will add it to your feed automatically. Additionally, FriendFeed’s Facebook integration makes it so all your friends know.

Micro-Blogging

I recently discovered Hellotxt.com and so far I think it is magnificent. The simple Ajax interface makes it easy to update all your Micro-Blogs like Twitter.com and Plaxo.com from either their website or from Facebook. I love that it includes a lot of international Twitter imitators (14 total) that I had never heard of.

Design Poster

I stumbled on to these links of Design Resources and Amazing Posters and I couldn’t help but think to myself “things are looking much better these days.”

I remember just a couple of years ago (ok, eight) and the only sites with consistently good design were K10K, Design is Kinky, and Shift.co.jp.  Everything else may have some interesting links or some cool art but now a days everything is looking so much better.  Yesterday I found HypeBeast looking for Joy Division stuff and I couldn’t believe how much I liked the design.  Heres a site that basically looked like a store and I was eating it all up.  They call themselves a magazine but really all they need is a “Buy Now” button and they would be a store.  Back to the point, they are a store and their design looks great and I am just eating it up.

The downside maybe that we are all feeding out of the same trough.   Maybe the reason everything looks good is that we are all moving down the same narrow thought hallway.  I think that since I’m inside the thought bubble it will really take something amazing outside my sphere of influence to wake me up.

BlipNut Sidebar

Because of BlipNut’s unique ability to “tag” any page and leave comments, I have been using the sidebar to tag my other profile pages and link them all together.

  1. First, create a list of all the links to all your projects and profile pages.  As you can see from my page, I have links from my MySpace page, Facebook account, Twitter, and even Shelfari.
  2. Next, download and install the BlipNut sidebar from BlipNut.com.
  3. Visit your profile page and “add blip” to each of the pages.

Additionally,  all of your pages will have an additonal link from BlipNut’s recent page if you are interested in branding yourself via Google.
